Last month was hectic, so here is the delayed one year anniversary post for the Carpe Diem blog!
Over a year ago, I had so many things to share, and I thought they were worthy of a platform. I started writing when I was 7, so I’ve naturally gotten better at it with practice. To be honest, I don’t remember when I realized I was decent at writing or the first time someone told me to become a writer, but when I knew… I needed to do something with it.
March 2019 came around and I thought “what do I have to lose?” So I took the leap, watched dozens of YouTube videos on building a website, buying a domain and a hosting, webpage design, and more. I made the original Blogger.com form of this blog, then months later I built this blog in a manic episode overnight. Here we are now.
The two of the hardest things I’ve encountered with my blog are the act of putting myself out there and authenticity. Authenticity often requires vulnerability, but at the end of the day every creator has to decide what their boundaries are. It took some time, but I’ve finally learned how to navigate showing my true self with maintaining a bit of mystery.
Two things I’ve learned in the past year? One, work that I enjoy, work that I am passionate about, and work that I’m not getting paid for should NOT feel obligatory. This is why I don’t have an uploading schedule. I will continue to write what feels relevant whenever I can and when I feel good about it.
Two, Carpe Diem as a phrase is a lot more than just traveling around the world and going on crazy adventures, like I thought. Even when we’re all stuck at home, Carpe Diem as my brand means to take advantage of every day we see as an opportunity for growth. Whether that’s experiencing new cultures abroad, having empathy for everyone that’s in a different position, becoming more confident about ourselves and finding new ways to express ourselves, learning more about our interests and what ignites our passions, and sharing our experiences with others.
Every time you learn something new, set a new goal, accomplish a goal, realize you deserve better, meet a new friend, get inspired, switch up your routine, see the bright side of negative experiences, shit even taking a different route to school or work, you’re living the Carpe Diem philosophy. I want my philosophy on this old Latin phrase to outlive my blog and become the staple of my life and many others.
Okay speech over. Thanks for reading and joining me on this journey.
Carpe Diem Question: What is something you’ve always wanted to start but haven’t had the courage to do?
